DESIGN LAB

Take the simplest task and design the most complex system to accomplish it!  This course provides a unique opportunity for using hands-on learning activities in a fun and engaging way to promote awareness of engineering and an understanding of teamwork and the engineering design process.  Students will have the opportunity to work with class teams and virtual teams to develop skills needed for high tech 21st century careers.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I

This computer literacy course introduces students to the basics of word processing, spreadsheets; data based applications, and multimedia presentations. Students develop an understanding of computer concepts, components and operations through project-based activities.  

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II

Code: 642
½ Credit

Students expand their basic knowledge developed in Computer Applications I. They work with graphics within large documents, increase productivity with macros, templates, custom toolbars and menus, and customize reports using advanced filters and queries.

DESKTOP PUBLISHING

Desktop publishing is a method of combining text and graphics, allowing the students to design and produce quality printed material quickly and easily on the computer.  The students create impressive-looking documents such as reports, brochures, advertisements, newsletters and graphics used in creating banners and signs. The course develops many of the skills needed for the business world and for the student's personal use.  


WEB DESIGN I

Through a hands-on approach, students study fundamental concepts and terminology of web page design, elements of effective web design, e-commerce web design, e-commerce web sites, picture hyperlinks, and actual web site production using various types of software and web design principles. Students survey the web to study the role of web sites in business and society, in information transmission, and in how web pages relate to various audiences today. Students prepare sample and personal web pages as they learn the various elements of web design by using HTML code. Students search the Internet to compare the features and costs of various host sites that allow them to display web pages that they might create outside of class.

               

WEB DESIGN II

Web Design 2 continues the HTML code writing process along with the addition of XML and CSS. The newest language technique developing on the Web is the extensible Markup Language (XML). This course introduces fundamentals of XML languages to define and validate data, use schemas, transformations, linking, and Cascading Sheet Styles (CSS). XML and CSS allow students to create web pages that are more creative and realistic than stand-alone HTML web pages. This course presents Web site development techniques using these current Web site editing languages. Students build and publish Web sites containing text, graphics, tables, forms, frames, scripting and site navigation. Students in this class also assist with the school’s website.

WEB SPECIALIST

This is an advanced class that will provide certifications, such as CIW, HTML5 and CSS3 Specialist.  This certification tests essential HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript knowledge.  These technologies, known as Web development trifecta, provide web pahes that easily adapt to smartphones, tablets, gaming devices, smart TV's as well as traditional PCs.  This course teaches deep knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3.  Other certifications available in this course include:  CIW User Interface Design Specialist, CIW Media Specialist, CIW Social Media Strategy Specialist and CIW Data Analyst.

E-COMMERCE SPECIALIST

This course teaches students how to conduct business online and manage an e-commerce site.  It focuses on business strategies, practices and tools essential to online commerce sites and services.

ADVANCED DESIGN SPECIALIST/INTERNSHIP

This course introduces the student to the commercial and practical world of informational technology.  The student is placed in an internship for the school year.  The student's coursework is individualized and differentiated to meet the needs and interests of the student and the employer.  The design lab course work is an extension of the student's job site work and skill development in preparation for additional industry certification and placement.
